Graduate

Ian is now a graduate of Midwest Orthotics as of yesterday afternoon. They were very pleased with the results and so are we. Ian wore his helmet for 21-23hrs a day for 7wks and 6days. We will continue to go back for scans every month for the next few months to be sure there is no regression. And at night we just have to make sure he is sleeping on each side of his head.

Today is day 1 with no helmet and I'm loving be able to cuddle with him and kiss his head wherever I want too!! Ian is still adjusted to not having it on, he has had a couple times where he has put his head down and did so a little too hard. He'll get the hang of it, just like he got the hang of wearing it.

week 6 & 7

So I'm a little behind in this, hoping that we leave the helmet at the office on Monday which puts us at 7wks and 6 days of helmet wearing. We will see though.





This past week we have gotten more questions and reactions then in the past weeks. On Thursday I was asked
Lady 1: Oh did he fall?
Me: Nope
Lady 1: did you drop him?
Me: No, he wears it to help reshape his head
Lady 1: oh, with a look of confusion on her face

Experienced lady 1 and 2 about 5min apart.

Lady 2: oh he has seziures?
me: no, he had a flat head
lady 2: oh wow it's amazing what they can do now

Today while tailgating, I would notice as we passed people they would look/stare and I could hear them say things such as: how cute, that's awesome, oh so sad, did you see that baby???, oh (with a sad tone). Needless to say it has been an adventure and I would do it all over again.

week 5 and check up

Ian has entered week 5 of noggin correction and to say he is doing great is an understatement. We went in this morning for a scan and Bernie (the Orthotics guy) was beyond amazed of Ian's progress his head is almost perfect. He called in another co-worker to see how much change had occurred in the 5wks. They were both super excited with the progress and we did discuss Ian graduating from the helmet but, Ian's age was the deciding factor (he's still young enough that his head could regress). So, instead we will go back in 3wks for a follow up scan he wants to keep a close eye on things as he does not want to over correct. Some adjustments were made to his helmet to assist in what Bernie is going after. They emailed me Ian's scan to show the changes from his first scan to today, if you're at all interested in looking at them and being slightly confused let me know.

This is a decision we do not regret for a minute even though everywhere we turned (insurance company/flex spending company) for "approval" we were denied. Our Doctor is beyond annoyed with insurance, he too not only sat down and wrote insurance a letter but he also took the time to call and fight for us. That's what I love about our doctor, he fights for his patients like he would fight for his own children and treats Ian as if he was his own, with his recommendations.

weeks 3 and 4

So Ian is well aware of the camera and I was going in circles trying to get a profile pic but he kept following me!!! It ended up taking my sister on skype to help get his attention.

Ian has a measurement appt this coming Tuesday. I'm curious as to what the numbers show as just looking at we see a major difference. There is still room for improvement but for just 4wks we are impressed and so gald we decided to do it despite insurance not covering it. He'll be out of it before it's paid off that's for sure.

week 2

Here we are week #2 we went in for a helmet check and they made some adjustments to the ear area and around the left eye. We go back in 3wks for another scan where they will do measurements and be able to tell us how much progress has been made number wise.

week 1

We are 1wk into the wearing of the crown and I do believe we have all adjusted. Night 1 (saturday) of sleeping with it on went ok, he woke up around 2:30 and was super sweaty so I changed him in different pj's and he slept till the sun came up. Night 2 (sunday) he woke-up again at 2 but this time there was nothing that was going to make him happy and after further investigation I do believe we have tooth #2 trying to make it's way through. Sunday night or Monday morning however you want to look at it he was up for about an hr, I ended up giving him about 2oz of milk and he fell back asleep till about 6:30. Last night (night 3) was a success, everyone slept through the night. Although, ever since Ian has been a wee lil boy he will scream (not sure what else to call it) in his sleep, it doesn't happen every night and never happens during naps. Not sure what that is all about. Ooookay, got off track there a lil bit.



The 1st picture was taken a week before we got the helmet and the 2nd picture was taken today 1wk after getting helmet. Is it me or is there already improvement??
